Pepper is waiting for her new home
Pepper is a very sweet Min-Pin girl who is looking for a special person, couple or family who will love her forever. She has had a rough past few months, so she is ready to exhale, feel loved once again, and put “roots” down in a permanent home.
Pepper sort of “drew the short straw”, vision-wise. She is a young adult dog (born 10/01/07), but was diagnosed with glaucoma in her left eye. She rapidly went blind in that eye, and due to the discomfort of chronic dryness, the left eye was recently removed at the vet’s recommendation.
The vet suspects glaucoma in Pepper’s right eye, although that eye is responding, at this time, to two daily eye drop prescriptions. Unfortunately glaucoma is usually not considered a curable disease and it’s possible, within two years or so, she will lose sight in her right eye also. (For more information about Pepper’s condition, long-term prognosis and eye drops, please contact
.)
Pepper, originally rescued from a shelter, was relinquished to Frisco Humane Society by her family of 18 months because they felt a blind dog wouldn’t fit into their lifestyle. After losing sight in her left eye, then losing the family she adored, followed by weathering surgery (and having to sport a dignity-robbing “lamp shade” around her head, post-surgery), you’d think Pepper would be left a bit rattled, to say the least. Quite the contrary, Pepper is yet another example of how amazingly resilient dogs are. Her delightful personality is still firmly intact.
Pepper is a pint-sized 13 lbs. She is crate-trained, house-trained, sleeps soundly through the night without a peep and thrives on attention from her person or family. Pepper gets along well with other dogs, but tends to want to hog the attention, so she’d likely be perfectly content as an only pet, as well.
We’re looking for that very special person, couple or family who Pepper will be the perfect fit for – just the way she is. While she may not seem “perfect” to everyone, we know she is absolutely perfect for that special, compassionate adopter. If you would like to give Pepper a loving, forever home, we invite you to submit an adoption application!
Homer **Update**
Homer Needs A Helping Hand…
***UPDATE .. Homer's heartworm treatment has been completely paid for by a generous donation by Jody Rummel! THANK YOU JODY!!
Two-year-old Homer began his summer in a bit of a crisis situation. Someone discarded this lovely Dachshund boy (like trash) in an apartment complex dumpster. With temperatures soaring, no food and no water, it looked like Homer also had no hope. Fortunately, a resident at the complex heard peculiar whines and whimpers coming from the dumpster, and was horrified to find Homer inside – desperately trying to keep from being buried underneath bags of trash and empty boxes. She quickly reached in and lifted out a very grateful little dog. Homer was malnourished, weak, dehydrated and almost bald, but his tail was wagging and his eyes still held a glimmer of hope.
Homer was taken to a vet, and eventually made his way into a Frisco Humane Society foster home. In the weeks since his rescue, Homer has been slowing regaining his health. His beautiful coat has almost completely grown back, and he has received the veterinary care needed to help him along his road to recovery.
Unfortunately, Homer tested very strong positive for heartworm disease, which means he will need to undergo an extended, very delicate treatment in order to save his life and help restore his health completely. Treatment of this nature takes several months to complete and is very expensive – not covered by our regular adoption fee. If Homer’s story has touched you and if you would like to make a contribution toward Homer’s heartworm treatment and foster care, please click here to make a donation. We will update everyone in a few months on Homer’s progress. Homer sends dog kisses and tail wags to everyone!
Jack Needs Your Help
JACK NEEDS YOUR HELP…
Our adorable pup, Jack, came to Frisco Humane Society with an injured front leg. The injury (a compound fracture) took place a few months ago and, unfortunately, healed improperly. X-rays showed one half of one of the lower leg bones (the ulna) was completely missing. Also, all of the tendons and ligaments were either torn away or cut out. Thus, with so little to work with, it made reconstruction very difficult and subject to failure. The leg is bent, dangling loose, vulnerable to further injury and nearly impossible for him to use.
Seeking the best possible outcome for Jack (a pain-free future with optimum mobility) we consulted Jack’s veterinarian, as well as an orthopedic surgeon. After examinations were conducted and x-rays examined, both doctors concluded that removing the injured leg would provide Jack with the best possible outcome. While not an easy decision to make, Jack’s health and well being are of utmost importance, so we are moving forward with the doctors’ recommendation.
We’ve been assured that Jack will quickly adapt to life as a 3-legged boy and will be running and frolicking happily in no time.
Procedures such as these are not covered by our regular adoption donations. If you are smitten with Jack’s sweet smile or touched by his story, and would like to make a tax-deductible donation toward Jack’s surgery please:

This little 18 month old, 6 lb Chihuahua was rescued from a shelter on June 6th. She had been left at the shelter by her owners because their other dog (also left at shelter) had bitten her and damaged her eye - they didn't want to pay for vet expenses.
The bite occurred about 30 days ago which means she had to have been in great pain for about a month. At the time of rescue her eye was severely infected and after taking one look at her, our wonderful vet at East Dallas Surgical Center stayed late on Saturday afternoon to perform the surgery to remove the eye.
Winkie's foster mom says that despite horrible pain she's the sweetest little dog imagineable .. when she met Winkie for the first time at the shelter, she picked her up to soothe her (holding her breath because of the awful smell coming from the eye), and the little dog just hugged her and wouldn't let go.
Please consider making a donation towards Winkie's surgery - we have had several high-cost surgeries this month and we are grateful for all donations (tax deductable).
100% of your donations go towards our vet bills. You can donate by via PayPal by clicking on the Donate Button at the left-hand side of this page.
Winkie will be available for adoption when she has recovered from her surgery.
July 21 - Fernando was rescued from a local shelter on June 20 following an urgent plea by Animal Control - they said he had been hit by a car and was in a considerable amount of pain.Fernando is about 9 months old and weighs in at 2 lbs. 14 oz.
We rushed the little guy to our vet where x-rays confirmed he has a broken pelvis.
June 24th, He had his surgery and it was not an easy surgery. His pelvis was divided into small parts. They wired his pelvis and did a FHO with biceps sling muscle pad to help hold it in place. Needless to say he is still in much pain but is friendly with his pain medication. He has been doing physical therapy for the last 2 weeks. He has dermoids on both eyes that need to be removed. They are causing scaring on both of his eyes. He needs to have another surgery to them removed. The surgery is schelduled for Wednesday, July 23rd. Then we can start to try to remove the scaring and restore his sight.
Donations toward Fernando's vet bills are tax-deductible.
We would like to thank the many people who have been touched by the story of Linus - because of your generosity we have received enough donations to completely pay for his cart! Your response has been amazing.
We will continue to post updates about Linus.

As usual I was browsing the animals that needed fostering, wishing I could save them all. In one of the cages was a little Tibetan Spaniel. He looked scared and lonely. I went to bed that night and couldn't sleep knowing that he would be euthanized that Saturday. The next morning I let FHS know that I would foster him.
Kristin picked him up for me, and it was love at first sight! He had such a precious face. He was very shy and had seemed to have lost hope. Within hours he was cuddling up to me and getting his share of TLC.
My neighbors had recently lost their little Yorkie, and were heartbroken so after a few days I took Darby over and knocked on their door. I knew they would be a perfect home for him - and I was right, they just loved him. (Click on Read More for the rest of Darby's story)
Andrewhas a condition called interstitial cystitis
Hi!! My name is Andrew. Am I gorgeous or what? My previous owner dumped me and my brother at a local shelter because she didn't want to mess with taking care of our long hair. I'm a Himalayan and I need to be brushed daily. When my mom dumped me at the shelter my hair was a tangled mess. But a volunteer with Frisco Humane Society rescued both my brother andme and took us home. My brother has already been adopted. But I get urinary tract infections, and it took several trips to the vet, and x-rays and blood work to determine what was wrong with me.I have a condition called interstitial cystitis. So I have to take a special medicine for the rest of my life and I have to eat a special prescription food. Although the medicine isn't terribly expensive, it did take a lot of money to figure out what was wrong with me. Would you please help out theFrisco Humane Society and donate a few pennies to help cover my medical bills? Me and the other special needs cats and dogs would really appreciate your help!!!
